PURPOSE
The Printset utility was developed to allow easy set-up of
printer options. Printset can be used either from a command line or
from a menu. The command line format is useful for batch file set-up
and for more experienced users. The menu format is provided for easy
set-up by all users. Also, a "custom" set-up procedure is available
from using the command line format.
USING PRINTSET FROM THE MENU
The menu is started by typing PRINTSET from the DOS 'A>' prompt.
Then press ENTER.
Press any key to get from the introductory screen to the printer
menu. Then enter the number of your printer listed on the menu. This
will take you to the print options menu.
Mark the options you want by typing the number of the option and
pressing ENTER.
To unmark an option entered by mistake, re-type the number and
press ENTER.
When all the desired options have been marked, type '0' and
press ENTER to fisnish set-up.
Press ESC at any time to end Printset without changing the
printer set-up.
NOTE: NO SET-UP IS SENT TO THE PRINTER UNTIL '0' IS ENTERED.
USING PRINTSET FROM THE COMMAND LINE
To use PRINTSET from the command line, type PRINTSET followed by
the name of the printer, followed by the options desired, separated
by a space. Make sure the printer name and the options are spelled
correctly as in the list below.
EXAMPLE: This will set up an Epson printer for Pica and Boldface.
A>PRINTSET EPSON PI BON
If you use the command line format and don't enter any set-up
options, the printer type will be selected and the option menu will
be displayed. Then choose your set-up options from the menu.
EXAMPLE: This will select an Okidata printer and then display the
options menu.
A>printset okidata
If anything is misspelled in the command line, the program will
display the error it found and then return to DOS. The printer set-up
will not change. Restart PRINTSET with the correct spelling.
THE CUSTOM OPTION
The CUSTOM option can only be used from the command line. It
simply allows you to send control characters to the printer. The
command line format with the custom option is as follows:
A>printset epson custom 27 14 bon
In the example, 27 and 14 represent the control codes to set-up
for expanded print on an Epson printer. The control charater must be
entered as a decimal ascii code. The custom option lets you use any
set-up code available for your printer. Also, you can use
combinations of the menu options and decimal ASCII control codes.
THE /b OPTION
PRINTSET displays colors when a color graphics interface is
found in the computer. Some people have installed a C/G
interface, but still use a monochrome monitor. In this
situation, the colors that PRINTSET tries to generate may make
invisible characters on the monochrome screen. If you are in
this situation, use the /b option when running PRINTSET. This
option forces PRINTSET to use monochrome attributes on the color
graphics screen. If this option is used, all screen information
should be visible to the user.
For example, the following are valid command lines:
printset /b prowriter co
printset epson /b
